DJ: DJ Mike Fox
DJ Mike Fox was amazing! He might have been the best part of our wedding. Our guests loved him! We didn't give him much direction regarding the type of music to play; we just told him that we wanted people on the dance floor. He delivered - he played great music and the dance floor was full all night.
Mike had a good feel for the crowd and he was a ton of fun. We had a group of guests that were ready to go right away. When they were ordering rounds of shots during dinner, Mike Fox would interrupt the dinner music and play a clip of the "shot, shot, shot, shot" song which was pretty funny. He also joked about the "shot war' between Table 3 and Table 4 which turned in to a night long contest as to which table could drink more and outlast the other. About five girls worked their way on the dance floor about five minutes after the entree was served, but Mike made a smooth transition with the music. Per our request, he did a nice job of cutting short the father/daughter and mother/son dance as we didn't want to slow everything down too much. He also played sound effects during Groom's and my drunken "thank you" speeches for a little (welcomed) comedic relief.
I'm not sure how, but he learned the names of multiple guests and would provide random commentary. There was a crowd of about 25 people that were constantly on the dance floor. Mike would call them out by name. For example, when someone dropped their glass on the dance floor and it broke: Mike said: "Charter is now cut off." When we were moving to the father/daughter dance, Mike said: "We have to slow things down for a minute...Sorry Leigh." The guests loved the interaction.
If you have read the rest of the reviews, you know that one of our guests didn't make it to the end of the night. Mike Fox had a bit of fun with this. He coined the nickname "Lady in Red" and made funny comments all night. At the end of the night, he played the song "Lady in Red" and led us in a toast: "To the Lady in Red, hopefully she is safe in bed, and tomorrow, doesn't end up dead."
He also brought multiple "props" with him including blow-up guitars and microphones. The guests (even the older guests who weren't on the dance floor a bunch) loved these. He also had a live mic and allowed some singing although he wisely kept this very limited so the wedding didn't end up as a drunken karaoke session.
At the end of the night, he busted out a partial Elvis mask and gave it to one of the guests. It was after midnight (after our fake exit/return) so some of the guests had left. Later, looking through the pictures, some of the guests thought we had hired an impersonator and they left before he arrived.
Overall, DJ Mike Fox was great. I don't know why more people don't use him (he is the preferred DJ of Bellagio, Wynn, and Mandarin Oriental which don't seem to be frequently used venues, I guess). He played great music, the dance floor was full all night, and the guests raved about him. I highly recommend him.
